Nursing Council of New Zealand

Nursing Council of New Zealand is the regulatory authority responsible for the registration of nurses.  Its primary function is to protect the health and safety of members of the public by ensuring that nurses are competent and fit to practise.

Te Whatu Ora

On 1 July 2022 Health New Zealand replaced New Zealand’s 20 District Health Boards as the overarching government agency responsible for health services across New Zealand, from the healthcare delivered in communities, through to national healthcare services.

Capital & Coast District Health Board has two distinct roles:

  • Hospital and Health Services (HHS) provides secondary services via the hospital and community outreach programmes.
  • The Strategy, Innovation and Performance team's role is to assess the health needs of the people of the district and contract the most appropriate services to meet those needs

Support for Māori and Pacific Nurses - Capital & Coast District Health Board

Hutt Valley District Health Board (HVDHB) works with other health care providers to plan, fund, and provide a range of healthcare services for people in the Hutt Valley.

Government Websites

The Health and Disability Commissioner promotes and protects people's rights as set out in the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights.

 

Health Research Council of New Zealand identify and supports research in order to improve the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders. 

 

Ministry of Health is the Government's primary advisor on health policy and disability support services. It gives access to reports, statistics, and legislation about the health of New Zealanders.

 

Ministry for Pacific Peoples bring the Pacific voice, perspective and understanding to policy and initiatives.

Working with Pacific Peoples: Va'aifetū. (guardians and guardianship of stars) is the Oranga Tamariki cultural-practice tool that informs practice design, review, and workforce support to best serve the needs of Pacific children and their families.

 

New Zealand Government Online is the official gateway to New Zealand Government. It provides an overview of New Zealand and its government, access to government services information, including health. 

 

Pacific Data Fale o Aotearoa is a free tool to help Pacific people in Aotearoa access data and develop data skills to support their work. There is a range of data about Pacific people and Pacific issues, and resources to help understand and use the data.

 

The Hub contains social science research undertaken, commissioned or partly funded by central government in New Zealand. This includes an annotated bibliography of Pacific Knowledge

Regional 

Ora Toa offers high-quality, low cost primary health care to Māori and non-Māori living within the Porirua and Wellington regions

Porirua Whānau Centre is the 'hub' for the community, enhancing the health, social, education and economic well-being of children and families.

Taeaomanino Trust provides social and mental health services and counselling support to Pacific families in Porirua and the greater Wellington region.

 

New Zealand-wide

Aotearoa Tongan Health Workers Association. To advance the wellbeing of the Tongan community through community engagement, family empowerment, individual leadership and organizational effectiveness.

 

The Child Poverty Action Group is an independent, registered charity working to eliminate child poverty in Aotearoa New Zealand through research, education and advocacy.

 

Community & Public Health. Information, resources and links around topics such as housing, drugs and alcohol, older persons health, nutrition, Māori health, Pacific health, youth mental health, well being and resilience and more .

 

Diabetes New Zealand is a Charitable Trust that represents and supports people with diabetes.

Etu Pasifika. Health, wellbeing and Whānau Ora services that serve Pacific families in the Canterbury region.

 

The Fono. Auckland-based organisation that provides information about affordable, culturally appropriate services, plus health promotion, education and Whanau Ora.

 

Hāpai: SUDI Prevention Coordination Service is responsible for coordinating a national, integrated approach to Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI) prevention in Aotearoa New Zealand.

 

Le Va  supports Pasifika families and communities to unleash their full potential and have the best possible health and wellbeing outcomes.

 

Mental Health Foundation. A charity that promotes positive mental health and wellbeing.

 

New Zealand College of Mental Health Nurses is a professional body that represents mental health, addiction and disability nursing.

 

New Zealand Dementia Foundation exists to improve the lives of people affected by dementia. They are an independent, national organisation connecting professionals to promote best practice dementia care through leadership in the areas of research, education, support, advocacy and influence.

The New Zealand Formulary is an independent resource that provides health professionals with clinically validated medicines information and guidance on best practice.

The New Zealand Formulary for Children is an independent resource providing healthcare professionals with clinically validated medicines information and guidance on best practice, enabling healthcare professionals to select safe and effective medicines for individual children.

 

New Zealand Nursing Organisation supports professional nursing practice in New Zealand.

 

Pacific Data Sovereignty aims to establish a unified voice and collective guardianship and advocacy of data and information about Pacific peoples living in New Zealand. 

 

Pacific Perspectives work primarily across the health and education sectors, bringing a multi–disciplinary approach to their work with strong recognition for culturally relevant and evidence-based methods.

 

Palliative Care Aotearoa Research Network (PCARN) is a national group of multidisciplinary clinicians, researchers and academic who promote clinical research and enquiry across palliative care services in Aotearoa New Zealand.

 

Palliative Care New Zealand (PCNZ) represents nurses from all care settings who work within the speciality of palliative care.

 

Pasifika Futures is a Whanau Ora Commissioning Agency. They work with regionally based providers and partners to build the capability and capacity of Pacific families.

 

Pasifika Medical Association Group (PMAG) provided a forum for Pacific medical professionals including doctors, medical students and other health professionals.

 

Pathways is a leading national provider of community-based mental health, addiction and wellbeing services. 

 

Pharmac is the agency that decides what medicines to fund and manages a fixed budget for those medicines.

 

Plunket Whānau Āwhina is a charity and Aotearoa’s largest support service for the health and wellbeing of tamariki under-five and their whānau.

 

Te Pou is a not-for-profit, national workforce development centre. They aim to improve the lives of people with mental health, addiction, and disability needs by connecting the people working with them, tāngata whai ora, tāngata whaikaha and their whānau, with knowledge, resources, training, and information.
