O'Reilly learning platform: How To Use

General Search

  • Use the search bar at the top of the page to search for titles, topics, and authors.
  • On the search results page, you can refine your results using the filter options on the left-hand side. 
  • Filter by format, skills, publication date, ratings, publishers, level, language or duration.
  • Sort by relevance, popularity, rating, date added, publication date or last updated.

  • Click the Reset Filters button to clear the filters.
  • Click More to see a summary of the book, the topics it relates to, and other information to know if it's the right choice.
  • Click on the title, then click Start to begin.

Courses

O'Reilly has over 4,000 courses tailored to the 30+ most in-demand tech roles of today.

To search for a course: 

  • Go to the navigation bar, click Start Learning, then click Courses.

  • Learn by role lets you select potential careers, and will suggest courses that help build skills for that job.
  • Build your skills lets you select skills you would like to be more proficient in, and will suggest courses based off your selections. 
  • You can then filter your results by course level - Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced.

Each lecture has closed captioning as well as a full transcript underneath.

Skills

Another way to find content is searching by Skill

  • Click Explore Skills in the top left-hand corner
  • Select one of the suggested Skills, or click View all for a wider selection
  • When you've found the specific Skill you want, you can filter by format, publication date, ratings, publishers, level, language or duration

O'Reilly Answers

On O'Reilly you can do a traditional search for topics, titles, or authors using the search bar. However, sometimes you have a specific question and a keyword search isn't enough. O'Reilly Answers lets you type in a question, and they'll provide the most relevant excerpts from their books and videos that answer your question.

To use O'Reilly answers:

  • Go to the navigation bar, click Start Learning
  • Click Answers
  • Type your question in the Answers search bar
  • Use the arrows to view the different excerpts highlighted
  • Click on Learn more to go directly to the section in the book or video

 

You can also select a question from the examples underneath the Answers search bar.

Playlists

Playlists are lists of O'Reilly content handpicked and grouped together. 

  • Expert Playlists are playlists created by industry leaders and experts. 
  • Public Playlists are playlists created by other users.
  • Private Playlists are your own playlists that you can create, update, and share. 

Finding Existing Playlists

You can find O'Reilly Playlists by using the General Search and filtering by Playlist. You can also find them in Topics, and on the Homepage.

Create Your Own Playlist

Creating your own Playlist is a good way to keep track of useful resources for your course, and store them in one place.

  • Click on your profile icon in the top right hand corner and select Playlists
  • Click New +
  • Name your Playlist (required) and add a description (optional). 

To add books, audiobooks, videos and case studies through General search:

  • Click to add an item to a Playlist
  • Select the Playlist you want to add it to, then click Done

To add books, audiobooks, videos and case studies when already viewing them:

  • Click the Playlist icon on the right-hand side
