Assignment Writing: Submitting an Assignment

This guide will help you plan, research and write your written assignments.

 This guide introduces you to Turnitin and shows you how to upload your assignment. 

Turnitin is a text-matching software that is used to check for originality of work.

  • Most of the summative written assessments are submitted via Turnitin. You're encouraged to submit your assignment more than once.
  • Every time you submit your assignment to Turnitin you'll receive a report that gives you plagiarism percentages.
  • When your tutor marks your assignment, they'll add feedback which highlights what you have done well and areas for improvement. This feedback is essential in helping you build strong writing skills, so always take time to carefully work through the feedback.

     

Six Steps to Submitting in Turnitin

  • Open up Turnitin in Moodle
  • Click on your

  • You should see My Submissions 
  • Find and click on

  • Type in your Submission title

Now, upload your assignment

  • Drag and Drop your file into the Submission area OR click the Add icon to open the File Picker
  • In the File Picker window, select  from the side menu
  • Click  
  • Find your assignment on your device and click  
  • Click  to add the file to the Submission area

  • The file should now display in the Submission area

  • Tick the box to confirm that this is your own work
    • If there is no check box, don't worry. Just move to the next step. 
  • Click to submit your file

Once you've submitted:

  • You should see this message under your submitted file: Status: Submission successfully uploaded to Turnitin.
  • An email will be sent to confirm your submission was uploaded successfully.
  • The first time you submit the file it will take 5 – 10 minutes for your Similarity percentage to show, until then it will show ‘Pending’.
  • If this is a resubmission it can take 24 hours for your Similarity percentage to show
