According to MOH (2020a), ...

... (MOH, 2020a).

  • A group author may be abbreviated in the 2nd and subsequent citations if the name is long, readily recognisable or appears at least three times in the assignment 
  • With the first in-text citation, write the name in full followed by the acronym/abbreviation. Any second and subsequent in-text citation, write only the acronym

  • If an author has published more than one work in the same year, add the lowercase letters a, b, c etc after the year of publication
  • The reference list is arranged alphabetically by title with the corresponding lowercase letter
  • Have the most specific date possible
  • Follow the title with a description of the format [Pamphlet] [Brochure] [Poster]
  • When the author and the publisher are the same, omit the publisher from the reference to avoid repetition

If the information is from a copyright-cleared scan or is a link to a resource that has been uploaded to Moodle, follow the referencing guidelines for that particular source e.g. book, journal article, chapter in an edited book etc

Course handout (PowerPoint, lecture notes)

Course material can be cited as they are recoverable by the tutor and other students enrolled in that course.

...(Stenger, 2018). 

Reference list entry

Stenger, T. (2018, February 22). SMART goals [PowerPoint slides]. Moodle. https://moodle.whitireia.ac.nz/

  • Author is the creator of the resource (Often the tutor)
  • The date is when the lecture was given
  • Include a description of the format in square brackets after the title [Handout] [Lecture notes] [PowerPoint].
  • The source is the platform the resource is availabe on i.e. a learning management system like Moodle. If your reader is able to access the resource, provide the name of the site and its URL
